A University of Ibadan don and former Deputy Vice Chancellor of the premier university, Prof. Olanike Adeyemo has unveiled her agenda for her COMSTECH Distinguished Scholar’s programme which focuses on review of academic structure, reforms, workshops and trainings in Veterinary Public Health and Preventive Medicine. Adeyemo made the announcement on her LinkedIn profile calling on universities in Nigeria and beyond to contact her to benefit from the programme sponsored by the Ministerial Standing Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation, an organization established by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), to strengthen cooperation among OIC Member States in Science and Technology (S&T), and enhance their capabilities through training in emerging areas.
According to the former UI DVC for Research, Innovation and Strategic Partnership, the COMSTECH Distinguished Scholar’s Programme covers countries such as Albania, Algeria, Azerbaijan, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Benin, United Arab Emirates (UAE), Brunei Darussalam, Burkina Faso and Cameroon. Other eligible countries include Chad, Comoros, Cote d’Ivoire, Djibouti, Egypt, Indonesia, Gabon, Gambia, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Guyana, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Kuwait, Libya, Lebanon, Maldives, Malaysia, Mali Mauritania, Morocco, Mozambique, Niger, Nigeria. The programme as well caters for Oman, Palestine, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Sudan, Suriname, Tajikistan, Togo, Tunisia, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Uganda, Uzbekistan and Yemen.
Prof. Olanike Kudirat Adeyemo is a professor of Veterinary Pubic Health and Preventive Medicine at the University of Ibadan, Nigeria. She is the first female veterinarian to be inducted into both the African and Nigerian Academy of Sciences in 2012 and 2016 respectively before she was named a Fellow of the World Academy of Sciences in 2019. Adeyemo was appointed as a joint FAO/WHO Epidemiological and Toxicological Expert in 2011. She served as the Head of the Department of Veterinary Public Health and Preventive Medicine of the premier university prior to her appointment as Deputy Vice Chancellor for Research, Innovation and Strategic Partnership.
Prof. Adeyemo played a prominent role in the fight against COVID-19 pandemic in Nigeria, and especially her state, serving as the Chairperson of the Oyo State COVID-19 Decontamination and Containment Team.
