The Department of Mass Communication, Fountain University, Osogbo, will hold its Professional Media Skills Workshop (PMSW) for the end of the 2020/2021 session. This information was contained in a release by the Coordinator of the Department, Salaudeen Kamoru while speaking to the press in Osogbo on Friday. According to the Strategic /Development Communication expert, the PMSW with the theme Upskilling, Mediapreneurship and Skills Marketing will hold from 6th to 8th September, 2021.
He said the workshop plays two key roles for the Department. He noted that the gathering of industry experts is to refresh and reinforce the various skills learnt by the students across the different areas of Mass Communication during the session. He equally posited that the workshop serves as a meeting point between the town and gown allowing the students from 100 to 400 Level have interaction with experts from the industry. He said the different areas to be treated by the invited facilitators include digital audio-visual content creation; graphics design; video editing; camera handling for still and motion pictures; solutions journalism and skills marketing.
While commenting on the experts who will facilitate the training, Salaudeen listed Otunba Jare Ayo Martins, the General Manager, Uniq FM, Ilesa, Mr Ahmed Alaofin, Head, Post Production and Editing Department, Arise TV, Lagos as well as Mr Mutiu Iyanda Lasisi, Co-Founder, Infoprations Limited as some of the experts expected at the 3-day event. Others include Beta Wale Adediran, BTR Lenses, Mr. Chibuike Alagboso, Nigerian Health Watch; Hally Habeeb, Vox Media, Ibadan and Ashraff Adeyemo, Ashnimator Motion Pictures. He therefore enjoined students to be prepared to maximize the workshop for personal development and professional networking. University guests expected at the official opening include the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Amidu Olalekan Sanni; the Dean of the College of Management and Social Science, Prof. Goke Lalude; invited Heads of Departments/Units in the University.
Similarly, the 200 and 300 Level students of the Department will be pitching their creative ideas aimed at advertising products from two Medium and Small Scale Enterprises on the university campus on Monday. According to the information released by the Department, agencies from the two levels will be demonstrating the capabilities of their creative responses to the briefs earlier presented to them by Adunni Exotic Fruits and Plantation Foods Limited. Adunni Exotic Fruits is a fruits company located in Osogbo while Plantation Foods Limited is the producer of 1st Premier Custard also located at the state capital. This effort is aimed at both exposing the students to real life advertising portfolio and strengthening the town and gown involvement in the training of the students.
